National Flea Week 19 - 25 May 2008

13.05.08

National Flea Week runs from 19 - 25 May 2008 and offers pet owners the opportunity to find out more about protecting their pets from fleas and, in some cases, receive a free flea check.

Many veterinary practices around the UK are taking part in National Flea Week, each in their own way. Some are offering free flea checks and others are creating waiting room displays so you can find out more about fleas.

TV presenter Anthea Turner backing campaign
This year TV presenter and dedicated dog owner Anthea Turner is backing vets in their fight against fleas and heading up the National Flea Week campaign.

She'll be calling on pet owners to visit their vets during National Flea Week in order to find out how easy it is to protect their pets.

"Buddy and Digger are part of my family. Because their health is really important to me, I regularly protect them and my home against fleas," said Anthea.

"If your cat or dog gets fleas, chances are they'll spread all over your home - which is the last thing you want. You can avoid all this with regular flea treatment, but nearly a third of pet owners still aren't protecting their pets properly.

"That's why I'd like you to join me in the fight against fleas and sign up to National Flea Week to pledge to protect your pets, and your home."

Pledge to protect your pet from fleas
It's important for pet owners to understand the problems fleas can cause and how to protect their pets and homes. As well as using a flea treatment product, simple steps such as washing your pet's bedding and vacuuming your home regularly helps.
